Southern Oil Refineries (SOR) has launched a new website to coincide with a key milestone in the construction of the new Northern Oil Refinery in Yarwun, near Gladstone in central Queensland.  The Northern Oil Refinery is a joint venture between J.J. Richards & Sons Pty Ltd and SOR and will be the only used oil re-refining facility in Queensland capable of recycling waste lube oil back into base oil.  Construction of the facility has been underway since late 2012 with extensive civil works, buildings and tank farms already completed.

The key milestone is the arrival this week of the 16 prefabricated refinery modules on a ship from New Zealand.  From anchorage in Gladstone Harbour, the modules will be craned from the ship onto barges for transfer to Fisherman’s Landing and then road haulage to the Yarwun site.  Receival of the modules will begin on 4 December and it will take about 5 days to stand the refinery structure.  Then begins the painstaking task of plumbing and wiring the multitude of vessels, pipes, valves, pumps and tanks ready for facility opening in the first quarter of 2014.

The new website can be found at:  www.sor.com.au
